It was a glorious weekend in June for baseball in Westwood as the God's repayed us big time for all the nasty spring weather we had to play through. It culminated with a Westwood sweep in the NCBR for the first time in it's 10 year league history.
In the U13 Division Coach Crowley's formidable first place Baby Blue's were no match for Coach Hannon's Grey Marauders as they quickly put up a 5 spot in the first and cruised to a 14-4 victory. The team did not stop swinging the bats and making plays to earn the title. Congrats to both teams for getting to the dance and to Team Grey for the awesome victory!
In the U14/15 Division nightcap it was an instant Westwood on Westwood classic game as Coach Cap's Big Red Machine took on the first place Coach Zeuthen's Blue Bombers. After Cap's Red's got out to a 1-0 lead in the first, the Blue's kept the game close with excellent pitching by Stephen Zeuthen. Cap's Big Red Machine could not be stopped and they added 2 more late inning runs and then held off Team Z's late inning surge with timely defense and great pitching from the tandem of Joe "The Beast" Shaevitz, Eddie "ERog" Rogers, Jacob "Kal" Kalamvokis and the closer Will "Hanny" Hanson to win a thriller 3-2.
This wraps another hugely successful year in the NCBR. We welcome our new friends from Dover and saw great baseball played all spring. Thanks to all the Players, Coaches and Parents for the dedicated support of our program. Please keep playing this game and tell your friends how much fun it was playing each other and competing against other towns. We hope to see you all around the ballfields this summer and next year!
