 MAJOR LEAGUE DIVISION

Head Coach Selection Process
  • League coordinator drives the process

  • Receive list of candidates from registration

  •  If unfamiliar with candidate, solicit information regarding experience and qualifications
  • Solicit input from prior season’s major and minor league coordinators on all candidates
    •  Knowledge of the game
    • Handling players and parents
    • Decorum on the field
    • Complaints or concerns

  •  Solicit input from the WLL Board on candidates regarding issues, concerns or considerations

  •  In addition to experience and qualifications, other factors for consideration follow
    •  Likelihood of child earning a spot in the majors
    •  Is the child a 12-year-old?
    • Complaints or concerns raised about the coach’s abilities or behavior
    • No coaches with children aged 11 or under will be pre-assigned to a Major League team unless their child is considered certain to be drafted into the Majors.  Due to the limited number of spots available in the Majors for 11s and under, the WLL Board has determined that only those players who played on the previous year’s 10A summer team are certain to be drafted into the Majors as 11-year olds.  This does not preclude someone with an 11-year old player from being an assistant coach in the Majors if his child is ultimately drafted to play in the Majors – just not pre-assigned.

  • Discussion with WLL President regarding proposed list

  • Coordinator develops final list of recommended head coaches

  • Coordinator presents recommendations to WLL board for approval
Selections are not finalized until successful CORI check completed

Assistant Coach Selection Process
  • League coordinator drives the process

  • Receive list of candidates from registration

  •  Any head coach candidate NOT selected as a head coach will be added to the list of prospective assistant coaches (unless the reason for not being selected would also preclude their selection as an assistant coach)
  • Assistant coaching candidates will be removed from consideration if there is question over the likelihood of their child being drafted into the M
    •  If removed for this reason only, it does not preclude the candidate from helping coach should their child ultimately be drafted
    • HAs a starting point, it will be assumed that the previous season's 10A team members only are likely to be drafted into the Majors.  Therefore, assistant coaches from this pool will remain on the list

  •  Solicit input from the WLL Board on candidates regarding issues, concerns or considerations

  • Discussion with WLL President regarding proposed list

  • Head coaches select one assistant from the proposed list

  • Coordinator presents recommendations to WLL board for approval
Selections are not finalized until successful CORI check completed
